Overnight Misery
By Iman Mir
I was nestled in bed
When I head crackling noises far head
At first, I thought it was nothing
A mirage created by my imagination
But the sounds become louder and louder
I opened my eyes to see
The beautiful green trees had tuned ablaze
The blue sky into a thick smog of smoke
The grass in ashes
I realised now that this was no dream
But a dangerous habitat going downstream
I ran and ran as fast as I could
Into the arms of safety away from the woods
I arrived in a sheltered area
And witnessed the damage to my home in terror
Far away I see a bird
Releasing water onto sufferers
My oh my what has the world become
One day it’s here and the next day its gone
